Smokefree/auahi kore schools website
Work continues on the site with new information being added on a regular basis. One of the most exciting additions to the site will be the pages for kura. These will incorporate the key concepts of auahi kore from the current Smokefree Schools website (www.smokefreeschools.org.nz) while incorporating a Māori-centred approach to whānau ora and the underlying Kura Kaupapa Māori curriculum of Te Aho Matua. Expressions of interest have been received and the short listed companies have now been invited to submit a request for proposal. It is anticipated that the pages will be live by 30 June.

School Stories
We are still looking for schools to profile on the website. A template has been developed to ensure the information is presented in a consistent format. If you have any schools that you feel may be suitable to profile, email Kath Blair, Schools Project Manger, kath@hsc.org.nz. Include a brief synopsis of the project and the name and contact details for the person we can speak with. The anecdotal stories we hear about some of the great projects, pilot studies and interventions happening in schools around the country have led us to create this page on the website. We now need your help to get it up and running.

lungfish.org.nz is taking a break
lungfish.org.nz has been around for sometime now and the site is starting to get old and outdated which has created a number of technical difficulties. It has been a great tool over the years for educating younger audiences (the target audience being 7-10 year olds). Visits to the site have also decreased to the point where it seems prudent to give it a short break while options are explored and we take time to carefully plan what we do next. There is a temporary holding page in place at www.lungfish.org.nz

‘Criteria for a Smokefree/Auahi Kore School’
The ‘Criteria for a Smokefree/Auahi Kore School’ is being finalised and input into the document continues to be received. These criteria help schools plan their steps towards actively promoting smokefree behaviours and attitudes to students, whānau and the wider school community. The draft document is available on the website. http://www.smokefreeschools.org.nz/docs/SF-AK_Schools_Guidelines_08.pdf

Partnerships
The Schools Group places huge value on its relationship and ongoing partnerships with key organisations in the education sector. We have confirmed arrangements with the New Zealand School Trustees Association and the New Zealand Parent Teacher Association. We are currently working towards finalising arrangements with both Te Akatea (New Zealand Maori Principals' Association) and Te Koru Puawai O Aotearoa (National Maori School Trustees).
